About the artist

Nilawati is 10 years old. Her parents were farmers. She was in school when the tsunami hit her village. She made higher ground with her friends and teachers. Her parents were swept away. She had seven siblings but is uncertain how many survived.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each thong goes to support the rebuilding and development of resources in Aceh, Indonesia & a scholarship fund for the tsunami survivors who provided the artwork for these thongs.
